DEATH OF SEARLE.
London, Dec. 9.
Universal regret is expressed at Searle’s untimely death. The Daily News and Sportsman, in referring to the death of Searle, state that he was the best oarsman who over sat in a boat, Sydney, Dec. 11. .
It is understood that Searle’s wish with regard to the championship was that, as it undoubtedly belonged to Australia, Australian scullers ought first to compete for it. Searle’s funeral will take place on Saturday, It is proposed to erect a monument to his memory at the finish of the champion course on the banks of the Parramatta.
Melbourne, Dec. 12.
Many thousands of people i followed Searie’s remains to the railway station. The streets wore thronged, and the proceedings were of an impressive character. It is suggested that a national monument should be erected over his grave.
