About one o’clock on Saturday morning a fire occurred in Tuam Street, Christchurch, bv which three shops were destroyed—Mercer and Ducktnanton’s (cop* perianths and mechanical engineers), Edward Lee’s (butcher), and H. Whitta’a, grocer. The White Swan Hotel had a very narrow escape. Wellington volunteers complain greatly of the manner in which the Auckland cartridges are constructed.
