CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, Oct. 4th, 1889; — Business for the week has shown no decided tendency in any direction. Buyers and sellers evidently are at variance as regards valued In wheat the slightest advance “on former tone ” of liioridoh ; quotations give as usual a brighter and more confident feeling'to'farmers who have had the temerity to hold so late in the season. We trust the same encouraging news may . continue until stocks now held are quitted. Oats are not now looked on as such'good property, values continuing to decline. Buyers are decidedly averse to speculate, and in local consumption spring grass is so plentiful that the demand is rapidly decreasing, and while not encouraging to hold stocks we see no reason to fear any material diminution in idlues. Other cereals also are quite pormant, and no change has taken alace. Grass seeds; beans and peas are without alteration, and values remain as last week. Potatoes are firmer, and for really prime picked derwents much better prices are offered. Sales at country stations have been made during the week at higher rates than latest returns would warrant. f : We think holders would do well to quit at once to avoid repicking and I waste of weight and labor.
