The auctioneer is the only man who can make anything by shouting. Other felk/ws, when they shout, are compelled to put down the cash for the crowd. Music doesn’t always “ soothe the savage bj.-east.” The Indians killed a whole brass band out in Colorado the other dray; or, at least, all except the player <of the double bass tuba, who, being a small man, escaped by crawling into hi/ i horn. When it is understood that the band were playing “ Grandfather’s Clock,” the Indians will oe freely excused at the East, and regret will b»e expressed that one escaped.
