GERALDINE LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The annual meeting of the members of this committee took place in the Courthouse, G-eraldine, on Tuesday last, at noon. Present Messrs A. White (chairman), 'W. S. Maslin, M. Connolly, and G-. H. Patrick. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read— Prom the Colonial Secretary, re Mr M. Connolly being appointed a member of the committee vice Mr A. Sherratt, resigned. SUNDAT-TEADING. The attention of the police having been called to the amount of Sundaydrinking carried on, Constable Willoughby reported that he had visited the various hotels during the quarter regularly on Sundays. He laid upon the table a report giving some interesting particulars as to the persons found there. The report was received. POLICE SEPOET, The police report upon the licensed houses in the district was read. That part of it referring to the Q-eraldine and Bush Hotels was considered satisfactory, The report upon the Crown Hotel complained of the want of accommodation, and said it was questionable whether the house was worth the repairs and alteration s necessary to bring it up to the standard of modern requirements. In accordance with this report a letter had b een sent to the Ipssee, Mr Markham, that the renewal of the license would be objected to. Ju this letter the narrowness of the passages and staircase were referred to as being too narrow to make escape from the building iu case of fire at all probable. RENEWALS. The application for a renewal of the license of the Crown Hotel was disposed 0 some length. Finally a list of the repairs required was made out, and. Mr Maslin moved, Mr Connolly seconded, and it was carried—“ That the repairs be taken in hand at once, and the application stand adjourned for three weeks. If the works are well in hand by that time, the license to be granted.”—Mr Patrick dissented from this. H® considered the town quith justified a new building being erected in place of the present one.— It was decided to send a copy of the resolutiou to the licensee and owner.
