SOUTH ORARI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of this Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening last. Present— Messrs J. C. Binskin (Chairman), Bates, Batty, Behrens, Collie, Coles, and J. McLeod. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. master's report. The Head Master’s report was read, showing the average attendance for last quarter to be Boys 23.39, girls 18.35, total 42, and complaining of the very bad attendance of some of them. It was resolved that the visitor should visit the school this week, and if he finds any of the children named on the list absent he is to report to the Chairman, the Chairman to then send notices to the police. correspondence, Correspondence was received Prom the Board of Education, stating that they will contribute half the expense of putting down a pump at the school, the cost not to exceed £2 10s.—Mr R, Coles offered to provide and put down the pump and stand for £2 10s.—The offer was accepted. From the same, enclosing a circular from the Education department, re letting the school for other than school purpose, and stating that it must not be let for any other purpose unless it is covered by insurance.—lt was resolved that the Chairman inform the Board that the school has been insured when let for dancing purposes, and ask the Board if the school must be insured before it can be let or used for religious services, lectures, school concerts, or public meetings. VISITOR. The visitor reported that some firewood was wanted for the school, also some stat : onery and school requisites. It was resolved that Mr Behrens get the firewood, and the Chairman procure the other articles. Mr J. McLeod was appointed visitor for the month. ACCOUNT. An account for school cleaning for quarter ending July Ist, £2, was passed for payment. CONCERT AND DANCE. The following is the balance-sheet for the concert and dance held on Friday, June 22nd:—Recipts—From sale of tickets, £6 8s; cash taken at: : door, £7 10s 6d; total, £l3lßs 6d. “ Expenditure— Refreshments, £2 2a 8d; tickets and advertising, £1 Os 6d; music for dance, 10s; hire of piano, 10s fid; incidentals, 17s fid; total, £5 Is 2d. Balance to credit of Committee, £8 17s 4d. i his was considered very satisfactory, and it was resolved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Binskin for the manner in which he worked to make the concert a success; also to all those ladies and gentlemen who came forward to assist.
