GERALDINE FLAT SCHOOL.

A concert in aid of the funds of this school was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening last. The night was beautifully fine, and the loom was crowded to excess, many having to stand. A deal of labor had been expended in decorating the room with ferns and lowers, the result being that the room looked really pretty. Notwithstanding the fact that one or two of the pes* forrrers disappointed the Committee at the last moment by not turning up, thereby causing considerable dismay an excellent and, Jong programme was gone .through, and theiPommiUee are to ho congratulated upo» tbe success which attended their efforts on behalf of the school. Mr D. Shew, Chairman of the School Committee, occupied the chair. The following are >be items:—The Misses Ellen «nd E. Dean opened the programme with a pianoforte duet. Ihe Geraldine Glee Club, who upon this ooeißion were conducted by Mr J. Aitken, rendered the glee " The Cuckoo Sing*' i This was followed with a Scotch reading : by Mr- Ferguson, Sandy Jameson and the School Board," which evoked louri applause. Mies E. Dean sang "The Sliver Rhine" in good voice. Mibh Andrews followed with "The Three Young Men of Ware," for which she was encored, and responded with "The Three Old Maids of Lee." Mr E. Mabin contributed "Sailing," securing loud applause. Mr A. S. Brooker, who came | next, sang " Twenty Years Ago " in good voice. A duet by Miss Dear, and Mr Aitken waß capitally given and fairly brought down the house. The length of the programme, however, prevented a well-deserved encoie being complied with. A comic, song >as the next item, and wsb also encored and responded lo with " Tommy's Stratagem." Mies Dean gave the bodr.'' 1 Auntie " in capital voice, and was loudly applauded. Mr E«r.»y eang a comic *oog, which wa* vociferously encored,, but not responded to. Mr J, Aitken waß also as successful as he uinally is with the comic recitation "Tbe Frenchata and the Valentine.* The Glee OJub followed with one of their enjoyable items "From Oberon io Fairyland.' After' the usual' interval the Glen Clnb acrain came on wiih the glee " Aw»k« iEoliVn Lyrf," which was also an enjoyable item. Miss Ellen Dean rendered the aong «' Laddie ", in a'inaraer that won a hearty round of. applause. Mr E. Mabin contributed "True tillDeMh." The item'"! Cannot Sing the Old Songs, was tendered by Miss Andrews in capital voice. A comic song was the next! item, and was loudly encored but not responded to. Miss Dean sang "The Awkward Stile" Mr FergOßeon followed with a rMdi'o* "Old Mother Hubbard." Mr Early tbengave "The Gallants; of En V . and" iii good, voice. The Glee Olub next contributed the glee "Ye Spotted Snakes." This concluded the programme.
