THE DIABOLICAL SECT.

The Sink Pao, a Shanghai paper, says ; — A. most horrible story has been received, and, if true,t he speediest and most vigorous prosecution on the part of the authorities is required to crush the evil. Tie information comes through official sources, transmitted from Honan to '1 ’ung Chou, and thence to all the different prefectures of China. It appears that on the 16th of the 7th moon the magistrate of the Yudistrictin Honan received a petition from a man named Li residing within his jurisdiction, setting forth that two of his children, a boy and a girl, bad been brutally murdered and their bodies horribly mutilated. Upon receipt of this intelligence the magistrate proceeded in person to examine the corpses, and found that they actually bore marks of having been most outrageously used; the brains were all scooped out, and the heads were broken and crushed. It became evident that this fiendish crime was perpetrated by some of the “ Diabolical Sect,” whose practice it is to go about with the object of murdering children and abstracting their brains to compound medicines with. It is well known that the members of this sect act in the most secret and mysterious manner, and they move about from place to place under the disguise of merchants or travellers. In consequence of the disclosure of the above tragedy, the authorities are everywhere on, the alert, and are adopting the most stringent and vigorous measures to bring about the entire extinction of the sect.
