A meeting of shippers has been held at which great complaints were made of the persistent favoritism displayed by certain companies in the matter of shipping goods. It was proposed to abandon the agreement existing between shippers and the several companies, and to deal freely with all shipping lines. A Company termed the Pacific Islands Trading Company, with a capital of £120,000, has been registered. The object of the Company is to purchase the island business of Messrs Henderson and Maofarlane, Auckland. Feb. 3.

On Wednesday night shares were selling at £320 per share, and by noon yesterday had risen to £370 during the afternoon, holders asking ±.410, though no sales are recorded at (hat figure. Last year dividends were at the rate of 30s per month, No reason is assigned for this fresh rise m the price of Broken Hill shares, but the advance may be due to anticipated receipts from the Bale of portions of the lease of the mine to English capitalists.
