MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS.

A meeting of the householders of Rhubarb Fist for the purpose of conferring with the Hoard's Inspeotor re the < stabliohment of a school in that district was held yeoterday at the houae of Mr B. Hamm >nd. There was a fair attendance. Mr J. Gibßon Gosr, the Board'* Inspector, and also the Rev, Geo. Barclay, ware present. The Utter gentleman was voted to th - 'air. Owing to the absence of Mr Rioe nothing drfinite was known m to the result of that gentleman's negotiations with the Hon. L Walker re granting a tite for the ichool. Id the meantime erquiriei were made by the Inspeotor an to the sites that would probably be available on the west side of the river. It was »hown that the cottage offered by Mr Rioe to be uied at a schoolroom free of charge was two and a half miles from the Pleasant Valley Sohool. The oattage contained four room*, thß two front rooms being about 10ft by 24ft. The site of the Government reserve, at present leased by Mr Jdulvahill, was shown upon the map. Mr Mulvahill said he was quite willing to let ths Board take about two acres for school purpoiei. All he asked was that they should repay him the rent of the pieoe they took, namely, 6s per aore. The Chairman here remarked that where the schools were email, and the salaries in proportion, the Board endeavored to have a good siiad piece of ground attaohed to the ichool at a perquisite to the master, Mr D. Guthrie offered to sail the Board a pieco of land from two to about flye aores, at £lO per aore. In the absenoe of any written reply from Mr Walker with regard to granting a site, it was unanimously decided to request the Board to apply to that gentleman lor a lite for a new lohool. /

lb was pointed out that if a site could be obtained on Mr Walker'* land it would suit all parties, and that double the number of ohildren would in all probability attend than if the sohool «ere upon the site offored by Mr Juthrie. In th« firat oaso the number of children of sohool age that would probably attend was bet«e«n forty and fifty, while in the latter case the number was twenty«four. It was considered by those present that no diffieuliy would be experu-uoed in raising a small sum in the distiiot iu order to help tbe Board in the erection of the school, if such a course was neoess&ry, Mr Howden said he was willing lo ooatirbute £5 towards that objeot. It was also pointed oat that a ohild required to be eight years of age before it was able to travel the distance from Rhubarb Flat to the Pleasant Valley r'chool, and that its chances of an education were considerably lessened. The householders prosent expressed the opinion that a mistrtse would be as well suited for the school as u master, as a large proportion of those who would attend were girls, and tbey would thus obtain instruction in sewing, eto. This being all the business, a vote of thanka to the Ohairmiu terminated the meeting.
