AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

TIMARU. Mcjßrs Gratis, Maoism und Adam report r vt bl-.e past fortnight as follow* : Horses— At the Timaru Horeo Bazaar on the 30. h 'flotunl we yarded over 40 horses of all descriptions. Business was fairly good during the day, and pricej up to £4O, this figure being obtained for a mare belonging to Mr E. Evane. To-day we entered about 50 head, but there were f«w buyers prejent and but little h'-;'ine?i w.s done. Wo quote medium to good d u'-i's at from £l7 to £3lloa and £4O; iulwior, £8 to £l4 ; hacks, best sorts, from £l3 to £lB ; medium, £8 to £lO 10s. Sheep—At Pleasant Point on Monday the entry was small, the flooded elate of the rivara preventing several large loti ooming forward. At Waihdyke on Thursday there were oJy a few poLsof prime mutton and a small entry of store sheep. Price* in both olaeses were «iu improvement on the former sale, and nearly all the lots wore sold. There is a better demand fcr large store oattle well forward in condition, and any lots ooming to hand during the next week or two will meet with a good market. We sold 5 heifers at £5 10a, Bat £4lss, 6at £4 17s 6d, and 36 head at from £1 to £2 12* 6d each. Sheep Skins—At our regular sales on Wednedsy we catalogued arid fold 3200 ski: 8. The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, he 6th inst. : The past has been comparatively a quiet week in the grain trade, but few samples offering, and the few orders ooming to hand hava to be exeouted from tx-store parcel*. The growers have a largo interest in store lines, but e.t present aro unwilling to name their reserve. Intercolonial orders are light, but from London we are advised that, although no improvement in prices is noted, an improved tone is noticeable in wheat. Considertblo business has been dona in potatoes, but the wet weather has retarded digging. Wheat—A few aalca for delivery from the country distriots have taken place at, for tusoHii, 3s 6£d ; pearl, 3j sd; hunter's 33 4|i; while ex-store parcels command a slight advance ; chick wheat is very sosrae, and any i.fL'.ring meets with ready sale at 23 8d to 2* lid. £s?. Oats An enquiry has been made for prirce milling, nhicrt are rather scarce; short feed (heavj) are offering plentifully at Is 9d ; (lanißband iniirior feed are selling at la 7d to Is 8d ; dui s and tartars, for seed, are wanted. Barley—Malslers we anxious to buy prime samples, acd prices ruk at 3«6dto3i9d, medium at 3s t;»3i 3d, feed 2a 4d. Beans and Peas—The former command 3s, and feed peas st 2a 9d to 2s lid; Prussian blues are dull at 3s to 33 3d. Grass Seed—This market shows no signs of improvement, and values remain at hst week's quotations. Potatoes—We o?m report no improvement in prioos, nor are the buyers active in operating, and last week's quotations of 27s to 28j at country stations are difficult to obtain. Kidneys ova rather scarce nt £2 5* to £2 10*. Dairy Produoe—Tbia market is very slow. Dealers are disinclined to purchase beyond absolute orders, which are »low in ooming to hand. Prime butter is 6d to 7d ; oheese, loaf shape, 5d to SJ-d; other sizes, 4d to sd. Tha above prices are those paid to farmers, and for delivery f.o.b. Lyttelton, oacks extra.
