Queen's Jubilee Committee.—A meeting of the Committee appointed re the Queen'n Jubilee celebration in Temuka will be held at the Ten>uka Town Board Office this evening. FooTBALL.—In view of tho Temuka Club's fixture with South Canterbury on Thursday next, members are requested to make u point to turn up lo practice this afternoon at 3 o'olock sharp. The Club have promised to auster in efcrength to further the club's object in get'injr a good pr»cticp, and it is intended to play Probable Team v. Ail Comers.

Stud Hobbe —Mr M, Connolly, of Geraldine, bas juet purehasod of Mr P. Butler the well-known thoroughbred horse Hanlan for 2(.0 guineas. This horse ran in the Champagne and Challenge States, Ohristcburch, two years ago as a two-year-old, winning the latter and being left at the post in the former. The horse arrived in Garaldine on Thursday last. Mr Connolly intends to devote the horse to stud purposes. _ Coubsing.—The South Canterbury Coursing Club held u meet on the Pareora Estate on Thursdav. It was well attended. Beaults ;—Puppy Slakes (first dog £9, runner up £4 10s, one dog £3) : Mr Mahoney's Shamrock and Mr Jones' Concrete divided stakes j Mr Wedderell's Guardsman carried off the third prize. All-aged Stakes (winner £8 Bs, runner up £4 4s, two dogs £2 2s eaoh) : Mr Mahoney's Tit Bit and Mr Ross' Pat divided the etakea ; Mr Ross' Montefiore and Mr Jones' Marion each took £2 2s. Satispactoey.—At the annual meeting of ratepayers of the Geraldino Road Board Distnot held on Tuesday last, the report and balance-shtet showed that there was only the small sum of £3 4s 7d remaining outstanding for rates. The Chairman the ratepayers upon this satisfactory state of. affairs, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Overseer, Mr Shiers, for the energy he had shown in collecting the rates. 05BH ilB Concert. —The Temuka Brass Band will give an open air concert, under the baton of Mr W. G. Rutland, on Monday evening, on the vacant spot of land at the east end of Commerce Street. The following is the programme :—Quick March, " The Statue"; schottiscbe, "Witchery"; overture, " Hours of Beauty "; quadrilles, " The Comedian"; cornet solo, " Gates of the West "; polka, " Buramer Flowers "; glee, "Angel Choir"; waltz, "Rustic Queen"; galop, " Rosy Cross " ; God save the Queen. Waitohi Fiat Libbaby. A special meeting of the Library Committee waß held in the Schoolroom on Monday evening last. Present—Messrs J. Eraser (Chairman), L. Scott, Thos. Orr, E, Redpath, T. Thornley, G. Johnson, D. Cuaningham, M. Moore, D. Moore, and J. Watson (Secretary). The minutes of the two previous meetings were read and confirmed. The Chsirman stated that the business of the meeting was to consider lenders for the repair of the library building. He had written to the two local tradesmen specifying the work required to be done. Two tenders for the work were tabled-Mr J. McClir.tock's £4 18s 6d, and Mr R. Eedpath, £6 15s. On the motion of Mr Moore, seconded by Mr D. Cunningham, it was resolved—" That Mr J. McOlintock's tender be accepted, and that the work be done to the satisfaction of Meesss Orr and Cunningham." It was resolved —" That the sum of £lO be spent in the purchase of new books, and that Messrs Fraser, Scott, Orr, Thornley, Moore, and Watson be a Committee to purchase the books on Saturday, May 7tb." After the names of several books which members wished to bo purchased had been lodged with the Seoretiry, the meeting adjourned. I Aootions.—Messrs J. Mundell and Co. hold a solo of woollen goods, etc., at Greraldine to-day. The same firm also publish a list of stock to be submitted for sale by them at Winchester Fair, on Tuesday next. Gira Auction and Salb of Wobk.—A Gift Auction and Sale of Goods in connection with the Primitive Methodist Church, Geraldine, took place in Mr W. S. Maslin'e Auclion Booms on Thursday last. The proceeds are to be devoted to the paying off of the debt now existing on the Ohuroh. Canvassers have been busy for some time past obtaining donations of goods of various descriptions, with the remit) that a large number of useful articles, live stock, produce, etc., were available for oonvertion into oath. The lighter goods were arranged on a long stall on the right-hand side. The table was presided over by Meidames Dean, Sherratt, and Dunlop. An excellent refreshment table, where a subitantial meal oould be obtained, had been furnished by Hesdames Sherratt, Hufley, and Fizzey, and was presided over by the two last-mentioned ladies. The rooms were opened at two o'olock, and in the evening the goods remaining unsold were submitted to auction by Mr Maslin. There was a large attendance of the publio, and all the lots offered found purohaisrs at prices that will allow of a substantial sum being available towards the liquidation of the debt. During the evening Meudame. Porteoui and Pye succeeded in raffling off at nn exceedingly satisfactory price a large doll dressed as a bride. These two ladies received a hearty vote of thanks for their efforts, as did also all those who had assisted in carrying out the auction. There is still, however, a considerable amount of money to be made up, and canvassers are now busy obtaining subscriptions towards thia object. It is to be hoped that the public will liberally respond to their erdeavors. Railway Refreshment Rooms, Timabu. —D. McGuinness begs to inform his numer ous friends, and the travelling public in particular, that having taken the above rooms for a fresh term he has decided to reduce the charges hitherto made, and in future they will be as follow : —Breakfast in readiness for early trains, Is 6d; Hot Lunch or Dinner, served up in the hitherto weli-knowo profuse style, on arrival of North and South Express trains, Is 6d. Tea and Coffee always in readiness, and ohoice confeotionery, &o. The lessee would especially draw attention to the Ladies' Private Dining-room, which has been specially arranged and furnished for their convenience. A waitress is always in attendance.
