SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

GERALDINE. A meeting of the retiring; Committee was held in the schoolroom prior to the public meeting of householders on Monday evening last. Mr N. Dunlop occupied the chair. The minutes of the prerious meeting were read and confirmed. The annuall report to be presented to the meeting of was read and approved ef. , A letter was read from Mr A. Erskine tendering his resignation of (he position of second master, he having accepted a similar position in the Public School at Masterton, and asking for testimonials. The Chairman stated that on receiving the resignation of Mr Erskine he,bad written to the B n ard of Education, and they had already advertised for another teacher. The action of the Chairman was approved of, .. An account amounting to £2 8s 9d was passed for payment. The Chairman was authorised to give Mr Erskine a testimonial as requested by him. i The visiting committee reported that everything was going on satisfactorily at the school, and they had had the flooring of the verandah'laid down.in asphalt. A vote of thanks to the Chairman was passed, for the Able manner in which he bad carried out the duties of Kis position. The meeting then terminated. MILFORD. .

Joseph, the tenchar, of his. charge owing to ill-health. '" , . A second letter was,read from the'Board of Education, dated .April 2, ceding to the Committee! request to . appoint Mr Hamilton of Albury to be Mr Josaph’a successor.

A circular was received from the Board of Education, requesting the Committee to give notice to the householders'of the an • n it election of Committee.- > : - An account was received from Mr Blyth for £2 7s for fuel, which waa passed for payment, A letter was received from’ Master Robert McLeod, of Buimer, applying for the" position of pupil teacher. It Was resolved— “ That the Chairman again write: to the Board of Education, ■>BkiDg them to uppoiat a pupil teacher aod to take into consideration the application of Master McLeod.” Several members spoke very strongly with regard .to the way in which tho Board of Education bad neglected the question of appointing a pupil teacher in the, school, BELFIELD.

The minutes of the wore read and confirmed. r ? Some discussion ensued about the school prizes, and it was finally agreed to give a 1! the children who passed in. the different standards a prize ; also to give a small book to each o&the.chiidretafin tbe first clans. The prizes to be* distributed by Mr Graham (the teacher) on Friday, tbe 22nd; and any members of tho’ -Cora* mitiee -ur-friends! who could make it convehient to be present. The liispector’e report on (be'elimination held on tbe Btb March last, waa read and considered highly satisfactory, as will be seen by his remarks | —“ This school passed a very good examination, and the efficiency of tbe classes ia highly creditable to Mr Graham. The pupils of Standard 111. showed considerable}, freakness in grammar, and were not : quite so successful in arithmetic as they might have been. . Reading, -recitation, sp*ltingj were meet excellent in-ail tho classes. The writing of Standard li. waa ' exceptionally gcodf while it waa better than usual in the other daises. Tho preparatory classes do ail their work' well. Good order whs maintained, ant, tbe children behaved well.” The, perpe&age of passes was 59,' percentage of fajlure* 13.
