Last S'Mird&y evening Major and Mm Barritt j.u 1 Adjutant Barritt arrived in TemuVa from Christchurch by the express train to taka partin the Array’s festivities, Oo Saturday evening special services war* held in the barracks, *nd on Sunday special services were held in the Volunteer Hall in the morning, is the afternoon, and in the evening, when the Hail was crowded to oveiflowing. L»si evening a great Solvation tea meeting was held, at which there was a large attendance. The tables were presided over by Mesdames Washington, Bowman, Benbow, and King, and Misses Benbow (2), Oharteris, McCallum, McCaskill and Greaves. The tea was excellent, and after full justice had been done to it a public meeting was held, at which there was a crowded audience. Major Barritt spoke at length upon the progress of the Army in New Zealand. He stated that in less than 12 months over 1000 soldiers were added to the Army. Addresses were also given by, Gapt. Molnness (Te-nuka), Oapt. and Mrs Williams (Bdclutha), Capt. Thomson (Timaru), and Mrs Major Barritt gave an excellent account ef the Rescue Work in the colony. She said the Army had now Homes in Wellington, Ohristchuicb, and Dunedin, and a large number of girls had been reformed through the instrumentality of the homes. The number who had passed through the homes was about 200 in less than twelve months. He also gave: some telling incidents of the immorality) existing in the towns where these homes are established. Adjutant Barritt next addressed the meeting, and earnestly warned the young men to shun everything that had a tendency to impurity.
