Gold Find.— The goldfield which breaks out annually in this district has been resuscitated this year. Persons bare frequently found gold on the beach, and parties have from time to time, during seasons when work was slack, made some little out of it, but so far nothing worth speaking of has been discovered. A digger, described as “ A West Coaster,” has visited Temuka, and shown some people gold which he alleged he bad got on the beach somewhere between Milford and Bangitata, but so far as we could learn he was not over sanguine of meeting with anything payable. However much we might wish for it, we are greatly afraid that the present find will be nothing more than Us predecessors has been, and (hat it is not necessary for ui to make any preparations for a great rush. AboWHKNUA. —This township has become the centre of mush attention since it has been proclaimed a town district, At the Temuka Bead Board meeting last Tnesday several applications were received asking the Board to place names on the rate roll for the sections owned by them in the township. It would appear, however, that these people waited too long. Mr Talbot very properly pointed out that it was doubtful whether the Board had power to do so. The district bad already been proclaimed; it was now as much a town district as it would be twelve months hence, and be could not see how the Board could interfere with ratepayers beyond their jurisdiction. The matter was left in abeyance, it being understood that if any of the applicants went to the trouble of obtaining legal advice on the subject, and found that the alterations in the rate roll could be legally made, they would be made accordingly. Judging from the great desire on the part of people to place their names on the roll, there will be some excitement over the coming elections fur the seats on the Town Board.

Fence Dispute.— A disagreement between neighbors was the subject of au inquiry at the Road Board meeting last Tuesday. It appears that the stationmaster at Rangilata has been allowed the use of some sections in that township by the Commissioner of Grown Lands, and that the fences on them ran across a street which will probably never be used by the present generation. A neighbor, named Stengar, for some reason known best to himself, took it into his head that these fences across the street ought to be pulled down, and out of this arose a dispute. The stationmaster wrote to the Board for leave to let the fences s'and, and as the Board saw no objection the application was granted. Subsequently, however, Mr Stengar presented himself at the meeting, and intimated that he wanted the fences pulled down. He also wanted the gorse of the -other fences out as it was dangerous. Nothing would satisfy him except to level the fences altogether, or to place gates at each end of the road, for, as he said, “ there is two ends to the road.” He also made the members laugh by telling them that at the river end of the road one would want s ladder to go down to the river. It wus decided that the Surveyor should try to settle the dispute amicably, and if he failed to report to next meeting, when the Board will taken action in the matter.

1.0.G.T. —The weekly meeting of the Welcome Retreat Lodge, Geraldine, wai held in (be lodge room on Monday evening, the W.C.T. occupying the chair. The minute* of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the roll of officers called, after which one candidate was initiated into the Order; The nomination, election, and installation of officers for the ensuing term then took place, the Lodge Deputy, Bro. T. Sherratt, acting as Installing Officer, and was assisted by Bro. W. G. Sherratt, who acted as Grand Marshall. The following are the newly-elected officers W.0.T., Bro, K. McKenzie; W.Y.T., Sister Maslin (reelected) j Secretary, Bro. A. Fisher (reelected) • W.T., Bro. G. H. Patrick (reelected) i W. 0., Sister Pye ; W.M., Bro. J. W. Pye; LG., Bro. J. Brown; 0.G., Bro. E. S. Cook; E.H.S. to W.C.T., Sister Hinton; L.H.8., Bro. G. Bethune ; W.A.8., Bro. 0. McKenzie; D.M., Sister Porteous; the election of the W.F.S. to stand over till t next meeting. The various reports of the retiring officers were read and adopted. The Secretary’s report showed that during the quarter the Lodge had made considerable progress numerically, 22 candidates baying been initiated. Most of those joining, too, it was shown had kept the pledge ; they had thus taken only one or two persons haring to be re-obligated. This, the report seated, would be highly gratifying to members, as showing that the Order was still increasing in popularity, and also that individual members were doing their duty in endeavoring to induce others to join. Daring the quarter a sister lodge bad been re-established at Waitohi under the most favorable auspices.

The report urged upon the member* the duty of endeavoring to get member* to join the Lodge. It was decided to hold an open lodge on Monday, 10th inst., Bro. T. Sherratt to make the necessary arrangements for the same. Some routine business was then gone though, and votes of thanks having been passed to the installing and retiring officers, the Lodge was closed. We bbxjbte that if everyone would use American Oo.’s Hop Bitters freely them would be much less sickness and misery ie the world, and people are fast finding this out, whole families keeping well at a trifling ooit. We advise all to try it. Bead Advt.
