At a meeting of the Carlton Club, the Marquis of Salisbury confirm'd tin statement already telegraphed that the Marquis of Burlington had promised to support the measures to be introduced by the Conservatives dealing with the Irish difficulty, and the Marquis ol Salisbury expressed a hope that these would result in a lasting settlement of the affairs of Ireland. A meeting of the Conservative party has been held at which it was resolved to proceed immediately with supply when Parliament resumes, and after that obtain an adjournment until January next. July 28, It is definitely stated that the Marquis of Londonderry will be appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland; Sir Mici.ae Hicks-Beach, Chief Secretary for Ireland ; Lord Randolph Churchill, Chancellor of the Exchequer ; the Earl of Udlesleigh, Secretary for Foreign Affairs ; Lord Halsbury, Lord High Chancellor ; Mr W. H. Smith, Secretary for War ; Lord George Hamilton, First Lord of the Admiralty, It is understood that the position of Foreign Secretary in the new Ministry has been offered to, but declined by, Lord Lyons, the present British Ambassador in Paris. July 29. Lord Hartirgton and Mr Trevelyan have distinctly declined overtures made by the Marquis of Hartington, for a coalition. A meeting of the, leaders of the Liberal party was held to-day, at which it was resolved not to take any action upon the assembling of Parliament, but. to await the delivery of the Queen’s Speech before deciding upon the course to be pursued by the Opposition.
