At the banquet given to-night by St. George’s Club to the Colonial AgentgGenerai, and various Executive Com missioners to the Colonial and Indian Exhibition, Sir Cuniiffe Owen presided, and took Advantage of the occasion to express the general regret felt at the death of Sir Alexander Stuart. r lhe banquet was most successful, and the proceedings passed off with eelat.

The Marqaia of Hartington has issued an address to the electors of the Rosendalo division of North-east Lancashire, in which he says it is unnecessary that Parliura' nt should represent the whole Kin«‘lom, and that the powers conferred on subordinate bodies should be delegated, and not renounced, the right of con ml being reserved by Parliament. The funeral of the late Sir Alexander Stuart took place to-day at Roxeth. All the colonial Agenta-General and a large number of colonists, together with delegates from Her Majesty the Queen and the Prince of Wales, attended the ceremony.

Mr Gladstone addreeaed a public meeting to-night at Edinburgh. He said be was convlaced that the people of Great Britain were resolved that autonomy was necessary for Ireland, and urged that the real issue was a question of creation of a Parliament, in the country. He expressed the opinion that the proposals of those in favor of Ireland seceding from- the Union were both baiting and visionary.

Tbe Marquis of Salisbury spoke to-night at Leeds. In tbe ceurse of his speech, he denied that he was an advocate of coercion for Ireland, He stated that ho desired due observance of the law, and took occasion to adjure the Conservatives to support those in favor of the maintenance of the Union.
