AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT.

Mr D. Maclean (for Messrs James A. Grade and Co.) reports for the period, ending Saturday «s follows

Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bajtaar on Saturday over 40 head of all classes were entered. Good young draughts are still in demand, and any coming forward meet with keen competition and realise good values, but as a rule owners are most anxious to dispose of their aged horses, and many of these coming to hand are quite unsaleable. We cleared nearly one-half of to-day’s entry at a considerable advance on late prices, all the good workers finding pew owners, and several requirements tor plongh horses still onsupplied. We sold privately during the week, for export, 17 high-class draught mares and geldings at satisfactory prices. In light horses there is but little business doing, owing chiefly to the inferior description of those coming to hand. We have enquiries for strong serviceable buggy horses, and quote prices for the week—Medium to good draughts at from £l6 10s to £27 10s j aged and inferior, £6, to £l2los ; backs : medium, £8 to £11; light and inferior, £3 10s to £6los, Cattle—At Makikihi on Monday the only cattle yarded were a few Heifors, which we sold at from £3 to £4. —At the Washdyke on Thursday there was a larger entry than has been the case lately both of fat and stores, Only a few p*ns of the former changed hands, prices being equal to 20s per lOOlbs. Privately duping the week we sold 12 head at above value, and at' suction cows near calving (for which there is a good demand) at from £4 to £6los. Sheep—At the Washdyke on Thursday there was a fair entry pf both fat and store sheep. There was but little business done in the former, owing to the trade being well supplied by private sales. We sold a line of medium quality ac 6a per head, Owing to the scarcity of feed there is very little, doing in stores. We have no transactions to report.
