TEMUKA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Committee of tt>e . above Society was held in the Town. ■ Board Office on Thursday, 17th inst.,,,. at 7 p.m. Present—Messrs K. P» Gray (Chairman), Quinn, Miles-, M*tson, Dyson, and the Rev, T. A. Hanril* ton (Hon, Sec. and Treasurer). The minutes of the laat meeting were read and confirmed.

Apologies. for non-attendance from the Rev. E. Mackintosh and the Iter* W. G. Thomas were read and accepted. The Secretary stated that no meet* ing had been convened daring the summer months, as nothing had transpired which required to be dealt with bj the general Committee. Relief had been afforded by the sub-Gommitlet < when necessary. He also stated that a sum of money which had been placed en a fixed deposit for six months in the Bank of .New Zealand would shortly ; fall due, and he desired instructions as to its further disposal.

On the motion of Mr Qatun, seconded by Mr Miles, it was ordered \ - to be placed to the ordinary account, in order that it might be operated ipon . when necessary. A balance sheet was submitted, . which showed that £56 lie bad been received from all sources since the formation of the Society in June, 1885, and of this £ls 13a 8d had beth ?* ! afforded in direct relief to 11 peraone (in 26 orders). A number of blanket! had also been purchased and distributed. With regard to the futara of the Society, the Chairman explained that Mr Talbot had been interviewed as to the possibility of the County Charitable Board subsidising the Temuka Benevolent Society in order that the work of, relief might be localised, and dealt with more promptly. Mr Talbot had giren all information in his power, stating that it wns the feeling of the Charitable ; Aid Board that the local Benevolent Society might be allowed to work as a subsidising body if reconstituted on a different basis, i.e., by electing the officers from irreepecttYt of denominations, etc, After due consideration it was decided that ihe Society remain as at fir it",' constituted, and continue to act as a local Benevolent.
