Correspondence was read from the Board of Education covering a report on the state of the school by the Inspector, and, giving details concerning the teaching staff; also, stating that the recent fall in the average attendance warranted the dismissal, at three months' notice, of two of the pupil teachers, and asking the Committee to make a recommendation on the subject 5 also, that the attention of the Board was about to be directed Jto the reorganisation of the District High Schools, and that any opinion the Committee may have on the subject would receive due consideration. The Chairman said that taken altogether the report of the Inspector was a -very fair one. There was one thing they, ought to do, and that was to pass a resolution bringing the compulsory clauses of the Act into force. -After some coavereation Mr Gray moved, and it was carried—•'That the compulsory clauses of the Education Act be brought into force." .;A.-list of persons who had failed to comply with the notice issued to them to s send their children to school was received, and it was resolved to summon three of them.at once. - THE STAPP. -.?With regard to the letter threatening the dismissal of two pupil teachers, it * was decided.to reply to the Board to the effect that immediate steps would be taken to raise the attendance up to the required average, and that the Committee hoped-the Board would not remove any of the teachers at present. With regard to the Inspector's report, the Chairman said be thought the idea W#s to do away with some of the pupil teachers and appoint an assistant master to teach the secondary subjects, so as to enable the head master to give his whole time' to the general work of the school. 'rThe: head master reported that thirty-seven-of the boys were willing to jpin the Cadet.corpß. Twenty-one of. the parents of: these children were willing to pay half the cost of their uniforms, and some ■were willing to pay all. The uuiforms <would cost 25s each. He suggested that .a collection should be made and a concert given, so-as to raise the orice of the uniforms. . Mr Cooper asked whether it was within the province of the Committee to do anything in the matter. -..-.■ The. Chairman said it was not, so far as the Act went, but he did not see why they should not do what would benefit thpidchool. ■-

Mr Gray said the Committee had already given its countenance to the affair, nnd ought now to do as much as they could for them. After some further conversation it was decided —"That the Chairman and Messrs Blyth, Miles, and Gray be a Committee to confer with the head master for the purpose of getting up the funds necessary for uniforms." ATTENDANCE. The Head Master reported that the number on the roll was— Boys,. 179.25 ; girls, 140.25; total, 319.5. Average attendance—Boys, 127.5 ; girls, 93.5 ; total, 221. Hijrhest attendance—Boys, 143; girls, 105 ; total, 248. VISITORS. Mr Blyth, visitor for the past month, reported that be found the school in a very satisfactory condition. He also gave some information with reference to Home repairs that h<id been done, and which required doiag. Mr Miies was appointed visitor for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £2 17s 6d were passed for payment, and after some other emull things were attended to, the meeting adjourned.
