MR GLADSTONE’S IRISH PROPOSALS.

An excited debate took place during Friday night and yesterday morning, m the House of Commons, on Mr Gladstone’s tactics i« introducing the measure for the autonomy of Ireland. The Premier, in the course of a lengthy and powerful speech, expressed his resolve of upholding without swerve tin’ principle of autonomy. Mr Gladstone has postponed the final reading of the Irish Land Purchase. Bill until the autumn session, although the second reading of the Bill will be proceeded with. The Mmquis of Lome protests against the second reading, as tlie Bill is virtually dead. 'The Times considers it farcical to take a vote on the second reading, since the Bill is dead.
Mr Bright is Tory indignant at the exclusive invitation issued by Mr Gladstone to the recent meeting of the Liberal party

A meeting of the group of Radical members who hold the same views as Mr Chamberlain with regard to the Irish question will be held to-day, in order to decide what course to adopt. It is generally beli fvo.! that, they will abstain from voting when a division is taken. Lord Hartington and his followers, it is understood, will record their vote against the Home Rule Bill. Later.
Forty-five members of Parliament attended ,a meeting convi ned by Mr Chamberlain to-day, when Home Ru'e questions wore discussed at some length. Finally all those present pledged themselves to vote £>gaiii«t the second reading of the Bill, to defeat the Government. Consequently a dissolution is regarded as certain. The evasive answers given by Mr Gladstone on Friday are tending to produce a revulsion of feeling, and many of those who had intended to abstain from voting on the second reading of the Irish Land Purchase Bdl will now be presi nl and vole against the measure.
