PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH.

The Rev. H. Chrk preached his farowell sermon in the Primitive Methodist Church, Temuka, last Sunday at 3 p.m. There was a very targe congregitiori. The preacher took for his text the 26th and 27th verses of the 20th chapter of ths Acts of the Aspostles, and delivered an admirable discourse thereon. He made some slight reference to the fact that he was leaving, and exhorted them all to keep faithful to their religion. During liis stay with them he bad endeavored to preach the gospel to them to the best of his ability, and if they fell away after he had left them it would not be his fault. He urged them to rally round bia successor, aod do everything they could io assist him in the work of advancing the interests of religion. In the evening he preached on the same text in the Geraidine Church a favorable sermon to hie Qeraldine congregation. The churoh wa» crowded. The sermon was somerbat similar to that preached in Temuka, it consisting principally of exhortations to be religious, and to render assistance to Mb successor. The Rev. Mr Clark will leave the distrut ou Thursday next for f'eilding, in the North Island, where he will take charge of a station. During bis residence in the district he has earned the esteen of every one with whom he came in contact. He is a zealous, earnest, and able preacher, a thorough-going hardworking minister of the gospel, and a sincere temperance advocate. Though a young man he possesses great tact, as well as much capacity to conciliate and to keep his flock together. He is certainly a very clever, amiable and capable young man, and will undoubtedly be heard of in the calling he has adopted. We wish him God speed in his new sphere of labor. Last evening a tea and public meeting was held at Temuka. The Church was nicely decorated for the occasion, with everggreens and flowers. The tea, which was provided by the ladies of the congregation, and presided over by Mesdames J, Woodley, Austin, Bryan, Woodman, Fletcher, and E. Prattley, .was fairly patronised, about 70 or 80 persons partaking of it. The tea over, the publio meeting was held, the Church being crowded. We purpose giving a report in our next.
