CRICKET.

TEMUKA C.O. V. TIMARU O.C. This match was played on Saturday in splendid cricket weather, and resulted in a draw. Shortly after, 2 o’clock God by, having won the toss, sent Roth well and Lawrenson to the wicket, while Bryant entrusted the bowling to Qurr at the pavilion end, and Bethune at the north end. Runs came slowly, but very steadily, for a very long time, when Rothwell was well caught at long-on. 1— 22—35. Marshall, who came next, looked like settling down, but, a change of,bowling being effected, he retired. 2 Perry then joined Lawrenson, and both played steadily, until Ogilvio again pitched a difficult one, this time for Lawrenson. 3—19—52, Jefferson and God by were both dismissed by sharp catches, the former scoring 2 and the latter 4, and then a stand was made by Fraser and Perry, when the latter was well bowled' by Gurr, after a very patient innings. 6—19—80. Mathias took his place, but Fraser allowed Raymond to appear. 7—9—BB* Mathias showed immediately that ho meant to hit, but a smart piece of fielding on the part of Wood cut short bis merry life. 8—8—97. Raymond played with his usual care and patience, and, along with Knubley, carried the score to 112, when (he latter was bowled, the innings closing almost immediately after for 117—considerably less than had been expected by either friends or foes. After the usual respite, Gurr and Bryars appeared at the wickets at 4.ss—the ball being in the hands of Rothwell at the pavilion end, and Lovegrove at the north end. As both men ployed very carefully, Godby took the ball from Lovegrove; but the score continued to rise, until Bryars was held near short-by off a miss hit, the first ball he had put up. 1—25—50. Brown succeeded at a quarter to six, and quickly rattled up 14, when Lawrenson, who had relieved Roihwell at the pavilion end, got him caught. 2 —14—78. So far everything seemed inspiring, but, strange to say, the tail began here. Gurr was soon bowled for a well-played 30, faultless, except for the causa of one appeal by Rothwell, decided in the negative. 3—30—78. The bowling and very plucky batting displayed by the retiring batsman were alike exceedingly serviceable, and many regrets were expressed during tee day that never more perhaps might Temuka hare the benefit of Mr Gurr’s oft-tried prowess. After him Pinckney and Hargreaves came and went, Mr Godby having very graciously consented to extend the time, although affairs looked the brighter for his opponents. Heap showed up very much batter than in the field—where lie seemed to be out of his element- -he and Bethune giving no little trouble. The latter, however, left him all too soon. 6—6—94. Ogilvie and Haines kept him company while he scored—7 for 96, 8 for 103— and Wood was just howled as time was called, 9—3—107, leaving the' match perhaps in a more satisfactory state : than if all had batted. The _ fielding of the home team on the whole was very good, Wood especially expiating former sins by some brilliant Work, but until fielders succeed in returning the ball very much more surely and rapidly but few batsman will be run out, and stolen runs will aggravate (he most painstaking bowler. The Club was placed under a deep obligation to the ladies who suggested and carried out the idea of a very enjoyable afternoon, repast. The following are (he scores : Timaku C.O. J.
