AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. GERALDINE. Messrs J. Mundell and Co. reporl sales for the week ending Saturday, stli Dee., 1885 : At the monthly sale of stock in the Geraldine Sale Yards on Wednesday there was a laigo attendance of buyers during the day, and the result of the sale may be considered satisfactory to all concerned, The number of stock yarded were : Sheep, 1999 ; cuttle 186 ; pigs, 66. The major portion of this entry was sold as follow : Sheep Crossbreds, shorn, 9s 6d ; merino ewes, in the wool, with 80 per cent of lambs, sold at 7s 9d ; 4 tooth store crossbreds sold at 8s 9d ; halfbred hoggets, shorn, at 7s 2d to 8s 2d ; merino -ethers, in the wool (broken), sold at 4s 9d. Cattle—Cows in full profit, and dose on calving, from £3 10s to £6 ; 3-year-old ■•tore steers were withdrawn at a bid of £5 10s ; 2-year-old steers and heifers sold ai £2 15s to £3 ; yearling steers and heifers £1 10s. Store Pigs—Medium size from 13s to £1 ss. We also sold on account of Mr Wm. Young several of his draught and hackney horses at the following prices : Draughts, £l3 10s to £l6 10s ; unbroken hackneys, £6 to £8 10s. Implements, etc.j at satisfactory rates. On Thursday, at Winchester Hotel, under bill of sale, we sold the whole of the stock and furniture in the hotel at satisfactory rates. There was a large attendance of buyers. On Friday, at the Winchester Fair, there was an average entry of stock yarded, but at auction very little stock changed hands. Of the lot submitted to auction by us, we sold 5 cows at from £3 10s to £5 7s 6d, 12 3-year-old steers at £5 12s 6d, 3 yearlings at £1 Is, 12 pigs at from 6s to 9s 9d, TIMARU. Messrs Jonas and Bourn report for the past week ending Saturday as follows : Very little alteration in the state of the markets for the past week is to be noted. Their various sales have been well attended, and have, as wi l ! be seen below, resulted very satisfactorily, both with regard to clearances of lines and prices. Their monthly sale at Pleasant Point Saleyards took place on Monday last. As usual, a very large number of those interested assembled in the township and about the yards. There was a large entry of stock, and a good business was done, very few lets indeed being turned out unsold. As on former occasions, there was some inconvenience suffered by those who brought forward their stock late, the yards very much needing enlargement, especially in the part used fqr cattle. They sold 173 crossbred ewes at 9s, 200 at 9s 3d, 200 at 9s 6d, 20 merino wethers at Bs, 108 merino ewes with lambs at 9s Id, J 67 at 9s 6d, 217 dry ew es at 4s 6d, 182 half-bred hoggets 6s 6d, and 310 quarter-back hoggets at 7s. In cattle they sold 3 sleers at £7 10s, 3 at £6 10s, 2 at £4 10s, 3 -it £4, 3 at £3, 5 at £2 7s 6d, 5 at £2 ss, 2 at £2. ] 1 steers and heifers at £5 7 s 6d, 5 at £4 17s 6d, 8 at £2 15s, 7 at £2 ss, and 29 at from £ll7s 6d to £2 Is, 16 cows at from £2 5s to £6 10s according to age and condition, and 46 yearlings at from 20s to 355, and 26 young store pigs at 9s 6d. The regular fortnightly sale at the South Oanteibury Saleyards, Washdyke, on Thursday, brought together a good lot of stock. There was a good muster of buyers, and the sale went well from first to last. They sold 17 merino wethers at 7s, 39 at 7« Bd, 38 ewes and wethers at 8s sd, 39 ’at 8s 6d, and 108 wethers at 10s, 262 merino ewes with lambs at 7s 9d, 797 half-bred hoggets at 7s 6d, 23 at 9s Id, 30 at 9s 3d and 72 at 1 Is 6d, In cattle they sold 6 steers at £6 ss, 6 at £6, 1 fat cow et £5 10s; 1 at £5 and 1 at £4 17s 6 ), 12 steers at £4 15s, 9 at £4 12s 61,1 springer at £6, 1 at £6 17s 6d, and Sat £4 17s 6d. Sheepskins, &c.—The usual lot were submitted on Wednesday last, and a clearance effected at, for merinos, Is 3d to 2s; crossbreds, Is 7d to 4s 8d ; pelts, 2d to 5d ; lambs, 6d, Horses—On Saturday they sold draughts at up to £lB ; hacks, £3 15s to £6. TIMARU MARKETS. Mr W. Evans reports the grain market still dull, with price about the same as last week. The barque Bells is now loading produce at the Breakwater for Sydney, and by every steamer, for Northern ports large quantities of produce are being shipped. But there ’ is still a large quantity of outs held in the district. He quotes Milling wheat, 2s lOd to 3s 44, according to quality; short prime Canadian oats, 2s ; inferior, Is 10d ; best long oats, Is 9d to Is lOd ; inferior. Is 6d to Is 8d ; barley, 2s 3d to 3s, milling to malting qualities ; potatoes, 30s to 355; bran, 80s ; sharps, 85s,—all f.o.b. Bags on grain 6d each, and given in with potatoes, bran and sharps ; terms cash. The cereal crops in this district are looking healthy, therefore a good yield may be expected according to the acerage sown. The latter is very far short of last year’s average, CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday large entries of all descriptions of stock were quoted, with the msuul aDendance of buyers. The fat cattle on offer were principally of medium quality; the demand proved but dull, late values being barely upheld. Steers sold at from £6 2s 6d to £B. Heifers, £4l7* 6d to £6 os, being from 20s to 21s per lOOlbs as per quality. A heavy entry of fat sheep yarded, mixed quality. In the absence of any outside demand, the sale was dull and lifeless throughout, and a considerable drop in value resitted. Crossbred wethers sold at 9s to lls 9d, one line of very superior quality and heavy weights going to 13s 6d ; crossbred ewes sold at from 7s 64 to 9s 6d; merino wethers, 4s 9d to 7s; do, in the wool, 10s 61. A large number of fat lambs penned, prices varying from 5s to 7s 6d per head, A heavy entry of store sheep yarded, principally shorn hoggets, which met with only a limited demand ; but few lines were sold, vendors in most cases preferring to hold their stock- until rain improves the pastures, and thus create a ! demand for this class of stock. A moderate supply of pigs met with a very bad enquiry, values suffering a further drop. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Dec. 2. Messrs Gol Isbomugh and Company, Limited, held their usual weekly sale of wool to-day. The attendance of buyers was large, and competition for the various lots offered was of an animated character. Some- 6100 bales were disposed of, buyers operating freely for America for light-conditioned • wools. Greasy merino sold np to lid per lb; scoured wools brought as much as 18£i, while for washed fleeces the highest priceobtained was 14£d. Dec. 4. The New Zealand Loan and MercnnM’e Agency Company, Limited, held their usual weekly wool sale yesterday afternoon. There was an important catalogue, consisting of 560 bales, sulmitted to competition. The bidding was spirited throughout, the market being active at late rates. Greasy merino wools sold up to lid, scoured wools to and washed l?£d. Sydney, Dec. 4. New Zealand wheat, 3s 4d per bushel ; New Zealand oats, 2s 2d ; maize, 56lbs, 4s. Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, L 26 per ton. Adelaide, Dee. 4, Shipping wheat is steady at 3s lid to 4s per bushel. Town flour, L 8 10s to l 8 15s per ton ; country brands, L 7 15s to LB, ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Dec. 1. Colonial breadstuff’s and tallow are unchanged. W 001—10,600 hales were catalogued at to-day’s auctions, and prices were well up to the previous day’s sale. The tone of the market continues firm. Dec. 5. The wheat market is weaker in all positions. One off-coast cargo has been sold at 36s ; on passage the price is 355. Flour is neglected. Although the stock is large, with good wools at -|d to Id above September rates, the quality of the new clip up to the present has not improved. 132,000 hales have been sold, nearly half of which is for export, 19,000 bales have been reserved,
