THE BURMESE WAR.

Calcutta, Dec. ,1. The Burmese garrison at A\a have yielded to General Prendergast, and the troops are now laying down their arms. The expedition proceeds from Aya to Mandalay, the capital, on Saturday next. Further intelligence from Bu.rmah states that the British expeditionary forces have arrived at the town of Ava, where but a slight resistance was encountered. Here General Prendergast was met by another embassy, who announced an unconditional surrender bj King Theebaw, Dec. 2. His Excellency the Viceroy has received advices from Burmah announcing that Mandalay is in the hands of the British. General Prendergast reports that the troops under his command en fcered the city yesterday without meeting any opposition on the part of the Burmese. Lord Duffenn has communicated with Mr Bernard, High Commissioner in British Burmah, instructing him to take charge of King Tbeebaw's territory temporarily, and administer it provisionally in the Queen's name. Dec. 3. Major-General Prendergast has occupied Mandalay in force. All the European inhabitants of the town are now in safety. King Theebaw has left the capital, and has proceeded to Rangoon.
