GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday evening, in the office. Present—Messrs W. S. Maslin, J. Huffey, J. Mundell, and N. Dunlop. On the motion of Mundell, seconded by Mr Huffey, Mr Maslin was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The minutea of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward was read and considered, as follows: — From the Hon. Mr Rolieston, M.H.R., dated 30th November, to the efiVt that be had forwarded the Board's letter, in which he personally concurs, to the Hon. the Minister of Justice re the appointment of one or more Justices of the Peace residing in Geraldine.—Resolved : " That the Cierk acknowledge the receipt of the same with thanks." From the Clerk of the Tinwald Town Board, asking for information about licensing matters. —The Clerk stated that he had acknowledged the same, and forwarded the information asked for. The same was approved by the Board. From the same in reply, promising a copy of their by-laws when printed. From the Secretary to the Treasury, dated 11th November, advising that the ■urn of £1 5s had been paid to the credit of the Board, arisiDg from fines collected under By-law No. 2, Section 34, during the month ending 31st August.—Resolved : " That the Clerk acknowledge the receipt of the same." From the Secretary of the Timaru Gas Company, dated 24th November, stating that the Company had reduced the price of coal tar—for quantities of 18 gallons aud upwards to 4d per gallon, and special quotations for quantities exceeding 250 gallons. —Resolved: "That the Clerk acknowledge the receipt of the same, and request-a reduction on the account for 290 gallons received duriog the month of November, as the Board had upwards of 1000 gallons at the higher rate, and upon receiving a favorable reply to forward a cheque for the same." From Mr Lawrence Coogan, dated Ist November, requesting permission to transfer bis sections, Noe. 6 and 7, leased from the Bo<>rd, to Mr Thomas Farrell.— Proposed by Mr Mundell, seconded by Mr Dunlop and carried : " That Mr Coogan's request be granted when the arrears for rent are paid." From Mr L- Newport, dated Ist December, requesting to be allowed to transfer his contract for lighting the lamps within the town district to Mr William Frude.— Proposed by Mr Dunlop, seconded by Mr Mundell, and carried: "That as the Board retain 20 per cent, of the contract price until the end of the year, Mr Newport's request he granted."—Mr Frude waited upon the Board to signify his willingness to accept the contract, and would sign the transfer when called upon to do so.

From Mr E. H. Pearpoint, Chairman of the Town Board, apologising for his absence, on account of having to attend a Volunteer inspection. Also reporting, on behalf of the Finance Committee, ihat the accounts for asph-iltiug had been rendered ; and part of them (ameunting to about £l2) hqd been paid. Further, that he had instructed the Clerk to obtain cement and pitch during the month for the Board's use. He also suggested that the resolution re rates, passed at the last meeting of the Board, be expunged from the minute book, and that a special meeting be convened when the valuation list is to hand from Wellington.—Proposed by Mr Mundell, seconded by Mr Huffey and carried : "That the resolution re striking a rate, passed on the 23rd November, be expunged from the minute book."

From the Property Tax Commissioner, dated 11th .Nov., asking if the Board desires to use the Property Tax valuation for the three years commencing Ist April, 1886, as it will be necessary to pass a resolution to that effect, and forward him a copy not later than the Ist December.— Proposed by Mr Dunlop, seconded by Mr Huffey, and carried— ,{ That the Board adopt the Property Tax valuation, and that the Clerk wire the Commissioner to that effect at once." From the Town Banger, dated Ist Dec., enclosing his report for the month, to the effect that fourteen horses and cattle had been found wandering upon the streets, and had been dealt with ; also asking instructions with regard to a case of illegal rescue.—Kesolved : " That the Board approve of the first pait of the Ranger's report, and with reference to the illegal rescue, that the Clerk write to the individual asking an appology : if this is tendered, no further steps to be taken." BESERVES. One tender was received for Town Sections 346 and 347. Kesolved—" That the time for receiving tenders be extended for one month." oveeseee's eepoet. The Overseer's report was read and considered, and the following resolutions passed thereon :-(l) That, the Overseer get the contiact finished in Wilson Street, and deduct the amount thereof from the balance due to the contractor ; (2) That as much as possible of the asphalting be done during the present month to allow the surface men to go harvesting; (3) That the Board are glad to learn that the cod tractor for clearing the dead wood on the margin of the bush has not exceeded his specification as reported to some of the members. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £34 15s 7d were examined and passed for payment. BOAKU OF HEALTH. The Board then resolved itself in a Local Board of Health; when the Inspector of Nuisances report was read, stating that Reserve 696 had passed from the Directors ?of the Canterbury College, by lease, therefore the nuisance in this part of the town would be considerably abated, if not altogether removed, in a short time; further it stated that the site for burying dead animals had been indicated as directed by the Board, and advertised in the local paper ; further that the notice board had been lettered and would be erected in a few .days ; and that the sanitary state of the Town District was good at tho present time. The Board approved of the report. ADJOURNMENT. The Board then adjourned until the sth day of January, 1886, at 7.30 p.m.
