GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held on Thursday the 16th day of October, 1884, in the Institute, Geraldine. Members present —Messsrs B. H. Pearpoint (Ohairman), N. Dunlop, John Mundell, Thomas Farrell, John Huffey and W. S. Maslin.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Outward and inward correspondence was read as follows : To Wra. Upton Slack Esq., Chairman of the Geraldine Road Board advising him of the day when the members will sit. To J. Ollivier Esq., Arbitrator, asking whether he meant Friday the 17th or Thursday the 16th October.—ln reply the Arbitrator said it was Thursday the 16th October. To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary forwarding a sealed copy of By-laws, No. J and 2. From the Colonial Secretary, dated October 3, acknowledging the receipt of By-laws No. 1 and 2.—Proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded by Mundell, and carried unanimously—" That the Bylaws, No. 1 and 2, as printed and published in the Geraldine Guardian on the 13th September last, be adopted, and that they come into force within the Town District of Geraldine on Saturday the 18th day of October, 1884." To Mr George Ward, dated 7th October, giving him noticd that certain clauses in the specification for No. 1 contract were being infringed. To Mr Slack, giving notice that at the request of Messrs White and Hamersley the members had postponed the enquiry until the 30th October, re accounts between the two Boards. From the Colonial Secretary, dated 3rd October, " re By-laws." From the Arbitrator, fixing the 30th October (at Messrs White and Hamersley's request) to hold the enquiry between the Geraldine Road and Town Boards ; also requesting that Mr Slack and Mr Shiers be notified accordingly.—The Clerk stated that this had been done. From Mr Geo. Ward, dated 16th October, asking an extension of time cf three weeks to complete No. 3 Contract on Waihi Terrace ; also, asking that the work be laid out for him by the Overseer, and that the Overseer inspect hie work at 10 a.m. on Friday, as he would be finished No. 1 contract (stone breaking excepted.) —Resolved, " That the letter be received." Resolved, " That as Mr Ward's time had expired for No. 3 contract before he had commenced, the Overseer invite fresh tenders for the work, to be sent in on Wednesday next, the 22nd inst. The Chairman and the Works Committee to accept a tender for the work." From the New Zealand Post-Office Directory, asking for certain information. —Resolved, "That the Clerk supply the same." From Mr T. Roberts, forwarding a circular with reference to "The new dry closet system and filtration of sewage." The Clerk to acknowledge the receipt of the same.

From the proprietor of the Geraldine Guardian, enclosing his account for publishing By-laws, etc. Resolved —"That the Clerk ask for a substantial reduction for advertising By-laws; and further request that arrangements be made for the future advertising of the Board." The Overseer's report was read and considered.

Resolved —" That the Clerk inform Mr Eckford that when the road and footpath is finished in front of the Bank, probably no necessity will exist for a pipe culvert or wooden bridge over the water-table," Resolved--" That Messrs John Huffey, John Mundell, and Thomas Farrell be appointed the Works Committee for the next term, and that they be requested to. examine the water-course on the east side of Talbot street, between the p.oun,d and the Cemetery comer, with a view of giving an out the river, Also the stone culvert on Waihi Terrace road, Resolved —"That the Clerk write to the Colonial Secretary and the Member for the district re Feperves applied for." The Board then adjourned.
