AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMAKU Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows : To-day they held their usual sale of draughts and light horses, 30 of which were entered for sale. The market was a decided improvement on the last few weeks, the prices being considerably better and the competition keener. Most of the entries consisted of really good draughts. : They placed 6 of one consignment from £l9 to £36, the latter price being obtained for a splendid young gelding. Another consignment sold at from £24 to £3l, and several other lots from £lB to £23 ; light harness horses and hacks sold at from £8 to £l4.

Sheep—A good many lots of store sheep, principally half and crossbred hoggets, are changing hands, and prices for these show an upward tendency. At present there are few of the other classes offering. Their usual fortnightly sale at the Washd} ke yards was held last Tuesday, when a fair amount of business was done. They sold the following lines:—36l half-bred hoggets at 13s 6d, 355 crossbred hoggets at 13s 9d, 100 crossbred hoggets at 11s, 50 merino ewes at Gs 7d, 130 merino hoggets at 10s 7d. Fat sheep-They have placed privately'several line of crossbred and merino wethers at prices equal to about 2|d per lb. Cattle—A big entry of store cattle was received for sals at the Washdyke last Tuesday'. The appearance and state of the weather that day was much against the sale, it blowing a strong nor’-wester and from appearances likely to continue dry 7 . The welcome rain since fallen was much in favor of those who purchased on that day. They sold 16 steers at £4 14a 6d, 11 yearlings at 395, 24 steers and heifers from £2 to £4los, 8 calves at 20s. Fat cattle—For prime beef present values are about 20s per 1001 b. At this quotation they placed a few head. At the last Washdyke sale they sold 9 steers at from £5 10s to £7. Sheepskins, Hides and Tallow. —Their usual fortnightly sale was held‘at their rooms last Wednesday, at which they catalogued over 700 shins, 22 hides and 16 bags tallow, all of which found buyers at the following rates : —Batchers’ crossbred skins, 3s 9d to 5s ; do half-breds, 2s 7d to 4s lOd ; do merinos, 2s 2d to 4s ; farmers’ lots, half and crossbred skins, 2s lOd to 4s lOd ; do merinos, Is 8d to 2s 10d ; hides, from 3d to 4d per lb ; tallow, from 2£d to 2|d per lb. ENGLISH MARKETS. London,’ Sept. 26. Australian tallow has declined a shilling per cvvt, and to-day is quoted at 33s 6d for beef, and mutton of fair average quality. New Zealand frozen mutton of prime quality has further improved, and is now realising s|d per lb. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, Sept. 27. Wheat at Adelaide is quoted at 8s 7d to 3s Bd, and at ontportsa' 3s 4d to 3s sd. Holders are willing to operate at these prices in view ■ f the approaching harve-t. The flour market is very dull. Town brands are quoted at £8 17s 6i, country brands at £7 17a 6d. Sydney, Sept, 26.
