ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, July 17. In the House of Commons to-day, in reply to a question, Mr Gladstone stated that the financial experts have finished their deliberations, and that the Conference will resume its sittings at an early date, to consider their report. ; The National Bank of New Zealand has declared a dividend for the past b»lf year tit the rate of 6 per cent per aßnura, and carries forward and places to reserve £IOOO. In the House of Lords last night Lord We.myss' motion for obviating a deadlock between the Government and the House of Lords on the Franchise question, carne up for discussion. Notwithstanding the recent denial in Paris of the statement that the Chinese Government refused to pay the indemnity demanded by France on account oftheLangson affair, it is definitely known that the report is substantially correct, and that the Chinese Government have up to the present time sliowa no intention of accepting the terms dictated to th?m by France, and have hitherto declined to pay the indemnity as demanded by M. Paternotre. The British and Dutch Governments have Bgreed to take joint action with a view ofobtaining the release of the crew of the steamship Nisero, who were shipwrecked and mado prisoners by the insurgent Rajah of Acheen. Another battalion of infantry has been ordered to proceed to Egypt, and the departure is expected to take place immediately.
