THE BLUE RIBBON ARMY.

.The usual monthly meeting of the contingent of the Blue Ribbon Army was held 1 /in the .VolunteerVHall, fenjuka. There were about 250 people present, apd P. Wills occupied the chair, ’The?; meeting was opened by the choir singing a hymn, , after, which) the rev Chairman read a portion of the Scrip hires and the Rev D Gordon engaged in prayer. The Chairman, ,then introduced Mr Barker, of Peel Porest, who gave an interesting account of the Conference recently held in-Christchurch.. Ho read the resplutions passed at the Conference, and urged the desirability of establishing a branch of* the Temperance :j Temuka. ! . / ;Me yvas well received, and his speech was highly appreciated. - The (Rev D Gordon then delivered, a very able address. He ,also referred , to the ; Conference, and urged how- desirable it was to have a branch organised in > the district. He then discussed at considerable length the temperance movement, and said it was a struggle for homeland for country, and for God. He treated the subject from a political point of view, and also pointed out its moral' influence 'em' society, and urged the necessity of total Abstinence. His address was spiced with racy anecdotes, which* Created much laughter, and at the close he was loudly applauded. After the meeting had concluded in the usual way, 23 * new members were' enrolled.' .
