A STRANGE CASE OF EJECTMENT.

An eviction under circumstances of a most sensational character occurred in Symond street, Auckland, at n mu 1 hut which has stood in the Roman Catholic Cemetcy, close to the roadway, for a great number of years. It is said to have been the resid' nee of the late grave digger, Walsh, for 30 years. After bis death took place, his wife, who is now an aged woman, continued to reside there with a portion of her grown up family. Within the last few months letters have been sent to the old lady ordering her to quit. The reason of these being sent is stated to be that the house was becoming one of low repute, but this assertion is denied by the inmates. Besides, Mrs Walsh's cabin has more recently been occupied by a young man named Elliot, who is her son-in law, with his wife and children. In reply to, the notices to quit, Mrs Walsh asked for leave to remain in the place as promised, pointing out tdie was engaged in cleaning the church and ringing the bell. No further ae ! im wao taken then, but some davs ago Mrs Wa'fib left for the country and immediately afterwards HJliot received notice to leave, and when he did not do so the grave digger and two

laborers pulled the supprrta from under the house, and it collapsed, burying the furniture within it. Elliot says the reason of it is that he joined the Salvation Array. Some sympathisers nre going to prosecute the Catholic authorities.
