" PERSONAL AND GENERAL. Mrs. Evetts and Miss R. Evetts werp visitors to New Plymouth last week. Miss M. Barclay has returned from a visit to friends at Okato. Miss Corbett is spending the holidays at her home at Awatuna. Miss Grey is the guest of Miss M. Barclay. Mr. and Mrs. Innes and Miss B. Innes are visiting Okaiawa as the guests of Mrs. Lees. Mrs. W. Johnston was a visitor to New Plymouth for a few days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Struthers and family are on holiday at New Plymouth. Miss B. Palmer left Okaiawa for New Plymouth at the end of the week. Mrs. Stenning, senr., and Miss J. Stenning were Mrs. Crawford’s guests at Okaiawa last week. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. G. Hardenberg and Mr. and Mrs. W. Stenning. Miss Delia Good, who has been in the Hawera Hospital for several months, has returned to her home at Okaiawa. Primary School Cricket. The final of the country school cricket competition was played at Okaiawa recently between Auroa and Okaiawa. The match resulted in a tie. Batting first, Okaiawa could muster only eight runs against the excellent bowling of B. Hooper. Auroa replied with 13 runs. In the second innings Okaiawa made 16 runs and Auroa 11. On the two innings each side scored 24 runs. Each team will hold the cup for six months. OPERA HOUSE, HAWERA. “BROADWAY GONDOLIER” TO-DAY “Broadway Gondolier,” Warner Bros.’ sensational new musical comedy, which reunites the popular stars of “Gold Diggers of 1933,” Dick Powell and Joan Blondell, will be shown at the Opera House on Christmas Eve at 2 p.m., 7.45 p.m. and 10 p.m. The picture, heralded as one of the most humorous, as well as romantic productions of the year, is based on a story by Sig Herzig, E. Y. Harburg and Hans Kraly. In the allstar cast besides Dick Powell and Joan Blondell, are Adolphe Menjou, Louise Fazenda, William Gargan, George Barbier and Grant Mitchell.
