BROOKLANDS TREES
COUNCIL’S ASSISTANCE SOUGHT. CONSIDERATION WITH ESTIMATES. The question of planting shelter trees on part of the Brooklands estate behind The Gables was again considered by the New Plymouth Borough Council at its meeting last night. The Pukekura Park committee sought financial assistance from the council to enable the work, which is considered urgent, to be done. The park committee, Cr. P. E. Stainton said, had agreed that the work should be done. Councillors had inspected the site and were in agreement. The committee was living from hand to mouth on the subsidy and if some extra fund was not made available the work could not be done. > Cr. S. J. Smith urged that the claims of other park areas should be also considered on their merits. • The matter should go before the finance committee. It was eventually decided, on the suggestion of Mr. F. T. Bellringer, that the question should be reviewed when next year’s estimates were being considered.
