ROTOKARE LAKE

LITTLE KNOWN BEAUTY SPOT. WATER AREA OF 80 ACRES. A little known beauty spot, Lake Rotokare, a few miles east of Eltham, deserves more attention from tourists than it has received in the past. A sheet of water 80 acres in extent and bounded by hills covered with native bush to the water’s edge it forms a delightful picnic or camping ground, ideal for weary townspeople who desire to get back to nature for a quiet rest. Civilisation might be 1000 miles away to all appearances. Boating on the lake is a favoured pastime, while there are delightful walks to be made through the native bush. There is beauty on every side, and in a country where native bush is fast becoming unknown it is a pleasure to have a reserve of this nature as a recreation ground. Unfortunately access to the lake is not good at present as during the heavy floods several months ago the road" was badly damaged and a bridge washed away. Efforts are being made to restore the road and improve the access. A reserve of this nature is worthy of assistance from public founds, and it is hoped that before long Lake Rotokare will be more widely known and patronised by summer picnickers, tourists and campers.
