FIXED PETROL PRICE
CONSIDERATION BY GOVERNMENT. COLLECTION OF INFORMATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The fixing of a standard price for petrol is at present being investigated by the Government according to an announcement made to-day by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. ,G. Sullivan. This statement was made when Mr. Sullivan was asked to comment on the recent report that it was likely the Government will be asked by the Dominion Petrol Resellers Association to consider fixing a uniform retail price for petrol throughout New Zealand. “It is one of the matters which we have been studying during the last fortnight,” said Mr. Sullivan, “and included in that study has been the collection of actual facts relating to the matter.” No direct action is being taken from Canterbury to have the price fixed but it is believed that retailers in the province are strongly in favour of a standard rate as the price here is lower by a penny or more than it is in any of the other main centres.
