DRAWBRIDGE TRAGEDY BUS CRASHES INTO RIVER NOT A SINGLE SURVIVOR BRIDGE RAISED FOR A TUG FAILURE OF THE BRAKES By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. < New York, Dec. 22. Between 15 and 20 persons plunged to their deaths to-day as a heavy omnibus crashed through a drawbridge over the Appomattox River near Richmond, Virginia, and sank in 30 feet of water. The bridge had just opened to allow a tug to pass through. The brakes of the bus failed to hold it and with a lunge the vehicle toppled into the water. An eye-witness declared that he could hear screams and see the occupants thrown toward the front part of the bus. One crashed through the glass and managed to reach the surface, but died from exposure after being rescued. Divers rushed to the scene, although it was obvious that all the passengers were dead a few minutes after .the bus sank.
