POLICE ASSAULTED
DARGAVILLE MEN IMPRISONED. BONUSES EXPENDED ON LIQUOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dargaville, Last Night. Unseemly behaviour, drunkenness and assaulting the police led to Robert Beasley, aged 22 years, Frederick White, aged 24 years, and Walter Dunn, aged 45 years, of Dargaville, appearing before Messrs. Jones and Paul, J’s.P., in tho Police Court this morning. The two older men of the trio, all of whom had expended the greater part of their bonuses in the consumption of Intoxicating liquor, became engaged in a political argument on the street on Saturday afternoon. The dispute became heated and blows were exchanged. Constable Dutemple was struck on the mouth by White, who strenuously resisted arrest. Dunn submitted quietly and when White had been subdued they were taken to the lock-up in a state of intoxication. Beasley became obnoxious, and though he was twice warned he refused to go home. When approached a third time he showed fight and. resisted arrest. Each accused was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment on one charge and was convicted and discharged on the others. {
