Fastest Aeroplane.
The Karoro, the first of Union Airways express fleet, has held the distinction of being the fastest aeroplane in New Zealand since it made its first flight, but it is likely to lose it. Mr. M. C. McGregor, service manager of the company, is at present at Wellington to test the Miles Falcon, which has been imported for special charter flights. This machine, similar to the one which won the King’s Cup in England this year, is expected to be capable of several miles an hour more than the 175 which is the Karoro’s top speed. It has a special interest for Mr. McGregor, since it is a development of the Miles Hawk in which he and Mr. H. C. Walker set a new Light aeroplane record between England and Australia during the Centenary Air Race. It is a low-wing monoplane with a.. 200 h.p. Gipsy Six engine, and has a cabin that seats three or four.
