SUNDAY SCHOOL PRIZES
PRESBYTERIANS AT OPUNAKE. The prize-giving and annual service of the Opunake Presbyterian Sunday school were held on Sunday morning. The Dominion Sunday school Christmas lessons was read by the superintendent,the Rev. G. Wood, who addressed the children on the significance .of Christmas. The Bible lesson, “Nativity,” was read by Bruce Whiting,a senior scholar. The junior scholars sang “Away in the Manger,” and the seniors “God of Abraham.” The children also gave the responses to the Dominion Presbyterian Sunday school lessons. . The superintendent and the junior girls’ teacher, Mrs. Wood, distributed prizes to the following: Kindergarten classes, June Taylor, Nancy Taylor, Audrey Brown, Noeleen Trotter, Nancye Wood, John Sharp, Brian Mantey, Rae Brown, Kenneth Mathie; primary, Fane Mann, Florence Mathie, Molly Thomas, Kathleen Boyd, Len' Brown, Donald Sharp, Trevor Pope; junior girls, Adelaide Bruce, Meria Morris, Noeline Clare, Audrey Pope, Dorothy Wood, Betty Byars, Margaret Weatherhead, Elva Clouston, Betty Boyd, Rae Fraser; junior boys, George Brown, Donald Trotter, Plyer Davey, Bruce Wallis, Ivor Clare, Brian Campbell, Cliff Thomas; intermediate, Thelma Mathie, Jean Morris, Joyce Whiting, Hope Johnstone, Ronald Clare, Jack Kerr, Alan Wallis, Bruce Whiting. Special prizes for attendance were presented to Nancye Wood, Trevor Pope, Betty Byars, Audrey Pope, Dorothy Wood, Plyer Davey, Ivor Clare, Thelma Mathie and Ronald Clare. Presentations of books were made to the teachers of the infant classes, Misses Kirk and Cory. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. Wood. There was a good attendance of parents. Tributes were paid to the teachers, including the superintendent, Bruce Whiting, Mrs. Wood, the Misses Cory and Kirk. Opunake School Gathering. Owing to the boisterous weather on Friday the Opunake school picnic was held in the town hall instead of on the beach. Games were played and the children had a good time. Ice creams, sweets and cakes were distributed. In the afternoon the pupils were taken to the pictures. . Personal Items. Visitors to Opunake are Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Edmonds and family, Mr. and Mrs. •T. S. Hickey and Mr. and Mrs. Urbhan.
