Lower King Country Freights.
In response to the representations of the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce and Settlers’ Association, the Railways Board has announced that substantial reductions in freights would be made to and from the King Country. The new scale operated as from Wednesday. Under the reduced charges A, B and C class goods from Auckland to Te Kuiti and in the reverse direction will be charged at a flat rate of 50s a ton, while the special small lot rate which obtained in the past will be abolished, and small lots will be charged pro rata of the tonnage rate. The decision of the Railways Board to charge small lots on the tonnage basis will reduce the freight charges to a great degree. Commenting on the reductions, Mr. W. S. Cato said they would come as a pleasant Christmas box to the district.
