Track conditions at the Hawera race- ,/g course yesterday morning were good, but little fast work was performed. Whenuakura looks better for his out- •• ing at Feilding, where his performance ■-/ was satisfactory, the most pleasing fea- Jg ture being that he pulled up perfectly sound. He will now rank as the centre’s best representative for future sprint ■ '/. events! Though not entered for the Auckland Railway Handicap, Whenuakura will be nominated for the other short distance events at the Auckland Racing Club’s Christmas fixture. Notium’s form, though he ran into a place, was disappointing, and it looks as if he is not of high enough class for the best two-year-olds racing at present. Ingenuity, who failed to materialise at Feilding, did not return, but will go to Woodville for the meeting on Friday and Saturday. W. Grindlay has had a trying time with Dombey, and his success was well deserved. Dombey is still capable of further improvement and seems a useful prospect for the holiday racing. Sea Adler (Cole) sprinted three furlongs on the outside of the course proper in 401 s. Celeste (Cook) again finished in front ./ of Corowa (Cole) over seven furlongs in Im. 40s. , - • Silver Wings (Cook) sprinted two furlongs along the back in 265. On the plough Kia Ora (Button) gal- ,/.j loped half a mile in 525., Gold Gleam (Cook) on the same track sprinted three furlongs in 425. Our Selection, Advance Plane, Kentucky Song, Knockout, Fersen, Low«nberg, Carfex, Supreme Court, Biomi and Clembroney were given useful pace work.
