FLOWER SHOW ENDS

SUCCESS OF Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. FAIR.

CROWDS OF VISITORS YESTERDAY.

After two days of keen public interest in the stalls and displays the annual world fair and flower show of the New Plymouth Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. concluded last night. Community House was crowded again yesterday by people who had previously admired or heard of the magnificent display of rhododendrons in the Alexander Hall and the charming arrangement of national stalls in the gymnasium. The attendants were dressed in the picturesque costumes of Denmark, Japan, Holland, Spain and China. The financial results of this year’s fair are expected to be over double those of a similar effort last year, and more elaborate arrangements for display have been amply justified. Visitors to the fair.have been greatly impressed by the strenuous and enterprising work of the organisers and a very large group of helpers. During the afternoon an entertaining prorgamme of dancing was presented by the pupils of Miss Dorothy Cock. Joyce Svenson, Freda Meyer, Alison Bush, Hilary Anderson, Beth Wilson, Beverley O'Dowda, Edna Glen, Judith Cassie and Dale Cassie formed a junior ballet which in frocks of different colours danced a beautiful rainbow ballet and a clever tap ballet Dressed in traditional red and green, Ray Logan, Joan Boulton, Dawn Waring, Lex Dunlop, Joyce Meyer, Freda Farmer, Joan Healey and Yvonne Morey performed a merry Irish jig. Toe-danc-ing numbers were done by Judith Cassie as a debutant after her first ball and by Yvonne Morley in a crinoline. A striking Spanish dance with tambourine’s was given by Billie Matthews and Barbara Haughton, an Early Victorian dance by Dawn Waring, a lavender doll dance by Dale Cassie, and an operatic dance by Alison Bush. Joy Springfield vigorously stepped out the sailor’s hornpipe arid did a skipping dance. Another skipping item was performed by Ray Logan and Freda Farmer. Little Edna Glen in attractive red and white costume gave a tap dance and an Irish jig.
