FIFTY YEARS DIRECTOR

MR. GEORGE J. COHEN RETIRES. Mr. George J. Cohen, who celebrated his 93rd birthday anniversary in April last, did not seek re-election to the directorate of the United Insurance Company Ltd. at its annual meeting at Sydney. The chairman, Sir Thomas Buckland, told the shareholders that the board would like to put on record its keen appreciation of Mr. Cohen’s valuable services to the company. He had been a director since 1885, and chairman since 1904. During those 50 years the 'company had paid dividends regularly and its assets had increased from £118,065 in 1885 to £1,053,306 in 1935. The meeting by resolution recommended to the board “that in view of the great services rendered to the company by Mr. Cohen, and in honour of his wonderful record as director for over 50 years, £5OO from the funds of the company be distributed among such hospitals at Sydney as the board may decide.”
