RECORD ENTRY RECEIVED
NATIONAL BAND CONTEST 26 COMBINATIONS TO TAKE PART. 300 PLAYERS IN OTHER ITEMS. QUEENSLAND BAND AN ENTRANT. Constituting a record for a national band contest in New Zealand, 26 bands have entered for the 1936 championship contests to be held at New Plymouth in March. In addition 300 entries have been received for solo, trio and quartet items. The entries range all over New Zealand and include one, the Cairns Municipal Band, from Australia. Invercargill and Auckland will be represented, an interesting fact about the latter being that it will be the first time in some years that a band has been entered from that city. Entries include such high-class bands as the band of Queen Alexandra’s Mounted Rifles Regiment, Wanganui, the Wanganui Garrison, St. Kilda, Dunedin, Woolston, Christchurch, and Port Nicholson Silver, Wellington. The Australian entry, the Cairns band, won 13 first prizes in the last Queensland State championships. Hotel accommodation during the contest will be taxed, but both public and private houses have thrown every facility open to the committee controlling the event.
