MOTOR TRANSPORT
OLYMPIA EXHIBITION OPENS. VERY WIDE RANGE ON DISPLAY. (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Nov. 7. A commercial ■ motor transport exhibition opened at Olympia to-day. Visitors include a large "attendance of foreign buyers. The exhibits range from large coaches and lorries to small delivery tricycles. The show includes fire engines, ambulances and dustcarts. Diesel engines are in the ascendancy and electric vehicles are competing with petrol engines. Three-wheel tractors which can be automatically coupled to detachable trailers are prominent features, offering a degree of manoeuvrability rivalling any horsedrawn vehicle. One firm shows a street sweeper collector which seems as if it would be as efficient on the roads as a carpet sweeper in the home. There are several fine examples of modem ambulance construction. Light vans are shown by a large number of makers, and the special needs of every conceivable trade and its delivery requirements are provided for. The crowds show a particular interest in the “stripped chassis” exhibits showing details of the transmission, for example, of a big rail car priced at £5OOO and driven by 230 horse-power Diesel engines.
