B RADIO STATIONS
HELP FROM LICENSE REVENUE. ' SUPPORT BY MR. W. NASH. A large . audience at Inglewood gave Mr. W. Nash a good hearing on Thursday night and a vote of thanks was carried on the motion of Mr. Marsh, Egmont Village. The Mayor, Mr. J. Gibbs, presided. * In reply to Mr. Marsh’s question of who framed the policy of Labour, Mr. Nash said the conference of delegates. Of the 125 delegates seven were farmers. y Labour’s attitude towards a national ha If-holiday, Mr. Maetzig was told, was not dealt with in the platform. Personally, he was not in favour of it.. Districts having their own half-holiday seemed better but if New Zealand wanted a national half-day' it would be Saturday. Mr. Kivell asked Labour’s view of B radio stations. Mr. Nash said they gave splendid service. There were two possible sources of revenue, from advertising and from grants from license fees. Labour was in favour of helping the stations. He, personally, was not in favour of advertising, preferring the use of license revenue. Whether Labour was in favour of ‘jdJ-Aays for farm workers was asked l.y Mr. Hunter. The party favoured the farm labourer having the same conditions as the town labourer, said Mr. Nash, but as cows had to be milked seven times a week (a voice: Fourteen) the holiday would have to be on a different system. The Rev. Mr. Blight asked if Labour was in favour of Bible instruction in schools, Labour was not unanimous, said Mr. Nash, and a Bill had not been brought before the House that had not insurmountable difficulties. Christian training was the finest for character building in his opinion. The solution seemed to be the Nelson system.
