SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIALS. Final arrangements for the Mt. Egmont Alpine Club’s annual ski championships to be held on Rangitoto Flat to-morrbw were made at a meeting of the executive of the club on Thursday night. It was agreed that the events should be men’s and women’s straight race and slalom, and a novice race. The following officials were appointed: Referee, Mr. R. Syme; timekeepers, Messrs. D. C. Ryan, R. Syme and T. Lay; course settlers, Messrs. B. Murphy, H. Snowden and R. Syme; starter, Mr. A. Thodie; recorder, Miss E. Buist. GENERAL ITEMS. Bible Classes’ Social Evening. In conjunction with members of the Bible classes at Riverlea, Rowan, Mahoe and Eltham the Kaponga Methodist young people’s Bible class held a successful social evening at the parish hall on Thursday. Despite unpropitious weather there was a large attendance. The hall was adorned with paper streamers and presented a festive appearance. The evening opened with community singing and competitions and games followed. Competition winners were the Misses V. Jackson and Butwell, Rowan, and Mr. A. Reynolds, Eltham. Miss B. Penny, Eltham, gave a solo, Mr. Reynolds accompanying. Supper arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames Cran, Law and Corder, who were assisted by Bible class members. Otakeho Ladies’ Guild. The monthly meeting of the Otakeho ladies’ guild was held at the residence of Mrs. A. J. Hastie >n Tuesday. Mrs. Hastie sen. was hostess and arrangements were made for a concert to be held shortly. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. The opening day of the Hawera Ladies’ Golf Club will take place on Wednesday. Members of neighbouring clubs are invited to attend. Smith and Trim Ltd. advertise particulars of the mart sale for to-day commencing at 1.30 p.m., when the firm will sell poultry, hen and 14 chickens, 5 small sashes, hams and bacon, furniture, including No. 66 Singer d.h. machine, electrolux in good order, and a small quanititv of women's clothing, etc.
