NALDA’S OAKS STAKES

VOITRE’S FIFTH SUCCESS VALIANT CHIEF ALSO RIDDEN. TRIPLE VICTORY FOR TRAINER. FLEMINGTON RACES THIRD DAY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.-Copyright. Rec. 8 p.m. Melbourne, Nov. 7. The weather was fine and there was a good attendance for the third day of the Victoria Racing Club’s spring meeting. Barrackcr had a comfortable win in 1 the Flying Handicap in which, the former New Zealander, Araunah, finished strongly. Gay Sheila was never dan- * gerous. Beechwood just held off a late challenge from Sir Geraint in the Byron Moore Stakes. Sir Geraint ran a great race under a penalty. Martinborough was a good third and Prince Quex ran a promising race. Bold Blood was never d; nous. Voitre’s clever waiting tactics were a contributing factor in Valiant Chief’s win in the Linlithgow Stakes. The colt, hitherto regarded as a poor stayer, won running away. Silver Jubilee had every show and Synagogue led early but finished last. Gay Circle had a comfortable win in the Carnival Handicap. The placed horses all have New Zealand associations. Gay Sheik and Yilderim were prominent early in race, but they tired. Gay Circle has had three wins in the last five starts. Nalda, who was pocketed at the home turn, finished brilliantly over the last furlong in the Oakes Stakes to win nari -dy from Bimilla, who was last in the early stages. Salamander narrowly beat Valsard for third place. Nalda is a stablemate of Feldspar and Marabou and is trained by Lou Robertson, who won the Oaks previously with Barbette. It was the first occasion that one trainer has trained the winner of the Derby, the Cup and the Oaks in one season. It was Voitre’s fifth win at the meeting. Sat mo th early took charge in the straight in the v eteran Stakes and won well. It was McCarten’s second win in the afternoon. Korero and Limbohm performed poorly. Results are:— FLYING HANDICAP.
