HAMILTON DROWNING TRAGEDY. AWARDS OF HUMANE SOCIETY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Oct 31. Recognition of a brave effort by the late Constable C. H. Williams and Mr. C. A. Clarke was made at • Hamilton yesterday when the silver medal of the Royal Humane Society was presented to Mr. Clarke by the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr. J. R. Fow, and a silver medal and a memorial certificate were handed to the next of kin of Constable Williams, who lost his life on August 13 in the Waikato River in an endeavour with Mr. Clarke to save a woman from drowning. Addressing a large audience and a police detaghment, Police-Inspector C. W. Lopdell said that life was measured in deeds not days. Constable Williams had truly done a life’s work.
