“NO, NO, NANETTE.”

BREEZY MUSICAL COMEDY. There was a happy rehearsal of that bright and ' witty musical comedy, “No, No, Nanette” last night by members of the New Plymouth Amateur Operatic Society. Principals and chorus under the able direction of Cecily Tabor-Gregory went through the production from start to finish, the whole presentation being governed by an atmosphere of “I want to be happy, but I won’t be happy till I’ve made you happy too.” Nobody should miss seeing “No, No, Nanette.” Tile work is of the light appealing variety—coloured with strikingly humorous situations and its lilting, bewitching music will appeal to everybody. Sydney Joll, cast in the role of the heroine “Nanette,” plays the part realistically. She is partnered with J. A. Pankhurst, who plays the part of “Tom Trainor.” John D. Quirk plays the part of “Jimmy Smith,” that kind-hearted millionaire, who becomes entangled by the designing purposes of three gold diggers, who, having basked in the pleasure of his wealth, are keenly wondering when the day of reckoning will be at hand. A sudden call to a beach cottage sets the spark to a flame that bids fair to consume the kind-hearted “Jimmie,” who has sent his lawyer, “Billy Early” ‘ (St. Leger H. Reeves), to try to beat the flame out by using every bit of wile and guile a lawyer is capable of “Billy’s” wife “Lucille” (Gwenyth Greenwood) is the first to foster suspicions and a very ticklish and amusing situation develops in that cottage by the sea. With many triumphs as a pleasant memory, the society looks forward to a happy season with “Nanette” at the Opera House commencing on Monday next and showing for four nights. Box plans are now open at Collier’s Music House.
